The challenge

A single payment provider meant outages became revenue outages, with no failover.
Handling card data directly would have pulled the business into the most demanding PCI scope.
Refunds and reconciliation were manual, error-prone, and impossible to audit cleanly.

What we did

Built a provider-agnostic orchestration layer so transactions route across gateways with automatic failover.
Kept sensitive card data with the providers, collapsing the merchant's compliance scope to the lightest tier.
Standardised checkout, refunds, and reconciliation behind one API, with row-level isolation per tenant.
Instrumented everything for audit from day one — every transaction state change is traceable.
